2019.03.16-Wintering in Florida

Believe it or not after driving all around the country for the last six or seven months looking at beautiful places we found we needed a break.  Sorry it's been so long since our last post but today we have several pics for you to look at.

Coming this summer Linda and I have accepted a volunteer position with the Vermont State Parks.  We will be working at the Knight Point State Park on an island in Lake Champlain Vermont only about 20 miles from the Canadian border.  We're excited about this opportunity and are looking forward to being in a part of the country where neither of us have been before.  If the timing works out as we expect after our stint in Vermont we'll drive up to Nova Scotia for a look around before it gets too cold.  Then the plan is to winter on the Rio Grande in South Texas.

The capitol kitchen, New Bern North Carolina.  For my clock friends notice the old English tall case clock movement above the fire which was modified to turn the rotisserie
So long for now Bogue Inlet

Myrtle Beach, one of our favorite spots...off season that is
A cormorant enjoying sunset at Huntington Beach State Park, SC
NASA in the Christmas spirit at the Kennedy Space Center
Everyone is in the holiday spirit. This is a sand sculpture Palm Beach, Florida, where we met up with my long time friemd, Priss and her brother.
We really enjoyed this mysterious National Park
We're not sure if this Anhinga or Snake Bird is just sunning himself or showing off for a little attention, regardless he wasn't bothered by our presence
These next few are from the Butterfly Conservatory on Key West.  Linda and I thought this was a definite MUST SEE
Notice the large circles on the rear of the wing, this one is called the Owl Butterfly.
Sweets, who me??  If you can believe it this is a chocolate dipped frozen key lime pie...on a stick!  YUM!
The Key West Lighthouse

Sunsets are a daily event in Key West
This is a Christmas tree of succulents at the Edison Winter House and Lab, Seminole Lodge, Ft Meyers FL
Directly next door to Edison was Henry Ford's winter home

It may look it but these definitely are NOT stuffed but live a happy life at Busch Gardens, Tampa Fl
A beautiful setting for giraffe and flamingos at Busch Gardens
Manatees or sea cows abound throughout Florida.  We found these in Homosassa Springs State Park about 100 miles north of Tampa and on the Gulf Coast
I hear you can never have enough Flamingos
A Brown Pelican
An American White Pelican
The lighthouse at St Marks National Wildlife Reserve on the coast about 40 miles south of Tallahassee
And one final shot from St Marks NWR.  This day was a scheduled burn getting rid of excess reeds and undergrowth.  This sign is no joke by the way; just to the left and barely out of frame is a pair of gator eyes just out of the water.  We left him alone and got along just fine.
